World Changers are “Set Apart” in Clovis Beginning Tomorrow!
About 300 junior high, high school, and college students from around the country (including 25 from the Clovis/Fresno area) will arrive in Clovis tomorrow afternoon (6/27) to begin the weeklong project of renovating 23 homes in lower income neighborhoods. Clovis received a record 70 applications for help this year. The students will paint houses, replace roofs, and provide hope to area residents in need. This is the sixth year in a row the World Changers organization is coming to Clovis, and it one of three cities in California (only one in the San Joaquin Valley) the teenagers and young adults will be assisting this year!
The Clovis Community Development Agency (CCDA) is again teaming up with World Changers to make the neighborhood upgrades a reality. It is providing the materials for the local projects, and it identified the people/families most in need of the assistance. It is an economical way to help improve some Clovis neighborhoods, while at the same time allowing World Changers to fulfill its objective of offering first-rate mission experiences to meet the physical and spiritual needs of others. The project is saving the City about $220,000.00.
Lowe’s is providing a 10% discount on materials; Fosters Freeze in Old Town is offering discounts to coordinators and staff; Classic Catering is helping with dinners; and Wild Water Adventures is hosting the volunteers for a “fun afternoon” on Wednesday.
“Set Apart” is this year’s theme for the more than 25,000 participants in 100 similar projects across the country. World Changers is a volunteer ministry of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. It began in Tennessee 19 years ago with 137 volunteers. Each of those volunteers today pays $260.00 to cover his or her costs of travel, food, and lodging.
A banner across Clovis Avenue at 7th Street will welcome the teens and young adults to our community. Their “Grand Sendoff” to work on Clovis homes happens Monday (6/29) morning at 7 o’clock at Clovis North High School.
