Man and woman killed in a two vehicle collision
A 34 year old man and a 31 year old woman were killed this morning when the vehicle they were in was struck by another vehicle.
At approximately 2:01 AM this morning Clovis Police received several 911 calls reporting a collision at the intersection of Minnewawa and Barstow. Officers arrived to find a collision involving a black Toyota and a white Acura. The driver of Acura was killed instantly, and his female passenger was taken to the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The driver of the Toyota was also transported to the hospital and is being treated for non life threatening injuries. The Clovis Police Department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) is currently investigating the collision. Alcohol appears to be a factor in this collision, but the cause is still under investigation.
Larry Garcia, 29 years old of Clovis, has been arrested in connection with the double fatal collision that occurred this morning at the intersection of Minnewawa and Barstow. Garcia was identified as the driver of the black Toyota. He was booked for suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Identification of the two deceased victims will still be made through the Coroner’s Office pending notification of next of kin.
