Free Wi-Fi in Old Town Clovis Expands
The free Wi-Fi in Old Town Clovis has expanded to cover a larger area. The network is along Pollasky Avenue and covers from Seventh to Third Streets. The second phase, which added service south of Fifth Street to Seventh, has just been completed and is now in service.
The project was initiated by the Clovis Community Development Agency and Technopolis Central California Collaborative (TC3) in an effort to provide more technology-based amenities for visitors in the area. The initial phase provided coverage on Pollasky Avenue between Third and Fifth Streets.
Connecting to the network does not require a password. Visitors within range simply connect their device and start using the service. A welcome page from TC3 will greet the users before they connect. Virtually all users of laptops, netbooks, PDAs, iPhones, and any other Wi-Fi enabled device are able to access the network.
“By providing free Internet access, we are adding to the visitors’ experience when they visit Old Town Clovis,” said Tina Sumner, Director, Community and Economic Development. “They can read that important e-mail, stock quote, or catch up on twitter, while they dine or shop,” she added.
In 2010, the City plans to extend this wireless network to Clovis Avenue as well, between Fifth and Fourth Streets.
