Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast Tomorrow in Clovis
The Clovis Police Department is again proud to host the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast tomorrow (1/16) in the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building (5th and Hughes). This is the 26th annual breakfast honoring Dr. King in Fresno County. This is the fifth year Clovis PD is presenting it.
“Living the Dream: Let Freedom Ring for Rebuilding our Communities and Nation through Education” is the theme of this year’s breakfast. Jacqueline O’Neil Kelley, better known to many of us as the accomplished gospel singer and artist JackieO, is the keynote speaker. Guests will also enjoy performances by the St. John’s Cathedral Choir and the African American Dance Troupe from Martin Luther King Elementary School.
Among the dignitaries attending will be Clovis Mayor Harry Armstrong, Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin, Clovis City Council Members Bob Whalen, Lynne Ashbeck and Jose Flores, Fresno City Council Members Cynthia Sterling and Larry Westerlund, Fresno County Supervisor Debbie Poochigian, Clovis Police Chief Janet Davis, Fresno County Sheriff Margaret Mims, California Highway Patrol Captain Roy Huerta, Fresno Police Auditor Eddie Aubrey, Clovis Unified School District Superintendent David Cash, Clovis City Manager Kathy Millison, Clovis Police Captain James Gentry, Dr. Sudarshan Kapoor, representatives of four SEIU workers unions, and members of the Fresno Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Committee. Many more are expected. The breakfast is the third of eight “committee” events being held in Fresno/Clovis this year to commemorate the life of the late civil rights leader.
The breakfast will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. in the Clovis Veterans Memorial Building. The cost of the breakfast is just $5.00. Proceeds go to the Fresno Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Committee. Attendees are also asked to bring a can of food to help those in need in the community through the Salvation Army Clovis Corps.
