Domestic Violence
The Clovis Police Department offers a proactive approach to stem domestic violence in the City through the S.A.F.E.R. program. The acronym stands for Support, Awareness, Feedback, Education and Enforcement, and Responsibility. The program integrates law enforcement and support services.
When officers arrive on scene for a domestic violence call, they may take a police report, make an arrest, or issue an Emergency Protective Order. An officer then contacts a department chaplain who provides immediate emotional and/or spiritual support and can arrange for interim housing if necessary.
In addition, the department provides a weekly Women’s Support Group and has a Clinical Social Worker available to provide information and referrals to local programs and services. The Social Worker is also available to provide a Risk Assessment to help evaluate the level of danger in a current relationship.
